We serve other non-profits in three key areas so they can achieve their mission.
Program Consultation
Partnership Development
Funding Strategy Support
These focus areas shape the initiatives we collaborate on and support.
NewStart Nexus is a Toronto-based non-profit, serving partners across Canada, dedicated to advancing equity and expanding opportunity for underrepresented groups in Canadian society, including marginalized communities, racial minorities, women, youth, and others facing economic, social or physical barriers.
We work alongside non-profits to develop proposals and initiatives that strengthen economic prospects, enhance livelihoods, and support long-term social and economic mobility.
Our approach focuses on four key areas that create the strongest pathways to opportunity. These pillars guide the initiatives we collaborate on and shape the kinds of projects we are especially committed to supporting.

How we work
We’re committed to making collaboration easy, transparent, and supportive for the non-profits we work alongside.
Why We Started NewStart
NewStart Nexus was founded by professionals with decades of experience in skills training and professional development. Through some personal collaborations with community-serving organizations, we saw a recurring gap: strong ideas with real community value often stall due to limited capacity, partner connections, or funding proposal acumen. NewStart Nexus was founded to bridge that gap—helping nonprofits refine initiatives, build the right partnerships, and move from concept to credible, funder-ready proposals.
Organization Structure
NewStart Nexus is led by a core management team that oversees every engagement—scoping, timelines, quality, and communication. We then draw on a curated network of practitioners, volunteers, and collaborators when a project calls for specific expertise. This model keeps support responsive and cost-effective, while ensuring clear accountability.
Our contributors bring experience in:
Nonprofit program delivery
Fund development and grant writing
Community engagement
Workforce development
Education and training
Social impact initiatives
Fees for Service
We're flexible.
We structure fees based on the project, the organization’s situation, and the level of support needed. In some cases, early-stage consultation and funding strategy can be provided at low or no upfront cost; in others, we may charge a modest fee to cover time and deliverables. Because we combine a core team with a curated network, support can scale up or down—so fees stay proportional to the work. If funding is secured, organizations can also engage us for implementation, continued support or additional services.
Operational Process
Initial Conversation
We begin by learning about your goals, your community, and the change you hope to create.
Assess Alignment
We assess the fit between our organizations to determine whether a partnership is well positioned for funding success.
Project Consultation & Refinement
We work with you to clarify and strengthen your idea, ensuring it is feasible, impact-driven, and aligned with community needs, organizational capacity, and funder priorities.
Partnership Cultivation
Where it strengthens the project and the application, we help identify and engage potential partners—community organizations, service providers, employers, researchers, or delivery collaborators—so roles, contributions, and shared outcomes are clear and funder-ready.
Funding Strategy Support
We research relevant funding opportunities, advise on readiness, and support proposal development—including narrative, budgeting, partner commitments, and required documentation.
Implementation & Optional Support
Once funding is secured, you may choose to engage us for additional support such as project facilitation or community hub management.
